Spring is just around the corner! Seize the opportunity between mid-March to late April to immerse yourself in this significant period without venturing far – It’s all happening right here in New York.

Let’s appreciate the splendor of these natural wonders…

Back in 1912 Japan gifted cherry trees seeds to the people of United States as a symbol of friendship.

The pink-blossomed Okame cherry trees start to flower around mid-to-late March. However, the ones that capture my heart are the Yoshino cherry trees, with their white to pale pink blooms, and the opulent pink Kwanzan cherry trees, typically flourishing in April.

Concerned about the crowds? Don’t be. You’ll still manage to capture that perfect moment! Now, let’s go through the details.

Here are our top four picks for marriage proposal amidst the beauty of cherry blossoms:

BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN

This is one of my “Top 3 places to go” when it’s Cherry blossom season. There are 200 trees and varieties of cherry trees. They typically bloom in April. Brooklyn Botanic Garden located near Prospect Park in Brooklyn have a tree map  on their website where you can track when it’s time for cherry trees to bloom and where each type of Sakura grows.

Please note, entrance to the park is around $12.

CENTRAL PARK

One of the most beautiful places to propose with a scenery of cherry blossoms is in front of the Belvedere Castle. The pink flowers make the building even more magical. Picnic, rent a boat or just walking around you can get down on your knee and make a marriage proposal to your partner. Don’t forget to book a professional photographer to memorize this significant moment.

On the Central Park website, there is also a map that can be used to find cherry trees. The main advantages of the park are its size and no need to pay for entrance.

Here are the spots where you can find Cherry trees:

  • Dene Slope(East Side from 65th to 67th Street)
  • Pilgrim Hill(72nd Street East)
  • Cherry Hill(Mid-Park at 72nd Street)
  • Shakespeare Garden(West Side from 79th to 80th Street)
  • The Reservoir(from 85th Street to 96th Street)
  • Conservatory Garden(East Side from 104th to 106th Street)

NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN

In the Bronx, the New York Botanical Garden boasts over 200 cherry trees, featuring a picturesque line of pink weeping cherry trees near the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

Just imagine, you and your other half having romantic picnic surrounded with beautiful trees. She will definitely say “Yes!”. Admission tickets can be found through this link. Bloom map here.

GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY (Spooky or Romantic?)

The historic Green-Wood Cemetery… It may sound creepy, but it’s not! It is home to over 170 cherry blossom trees, which look particularly luxurious against the somber backdrop of gray mausoleums.

If you are looking for something unique and with less crowds, this is it! It’s a great place to choose when looking to do secret proposal (photographer can hide behind the trees), or to do a couple photoshoot when you can propose to your partner.

One day, in two decades, when sharing photos from the day of your marriage proposal, your children or friends will be very surprised that it’s happened in the cemetery. How exotic, right?
